Michael Vaughan feels England don't have tools to beat Australia in the next Ashes

Australia have once again started dominating England in the Ashes. In the first half of this decade, the Brits were the better side as they won all the series at home and also won in Australia in 2009-10. However, things have started changing now. Australia won the last Ashes at home before drawing the series 2-2 in England this summer to retain the urn.

It was the first time since 2001 that England failed to win the home Ashes. They could have ended up losing the series as well but a heroic knock from Ben Stokes saw them clinch win from the jaws of defeat at Headingley. And looking at the way both the teams have performed in recent times, it would not be surprising if Australia further extend their domination according to former cricketer Michael Vaughan.

I don’t think England have got a chance

Vaughan, who led England to the famous Ashes win in 2005, believes Joe Root and his men have got no chance to beat Australia in the next Ashes. Vaughan’s comment came after England lost 1-0 against New Zealand in the recently-concluded two-match Test series.

While England lost, Australia thrashed Pakistan 2-0 at home. Australia completely dominated the series with their batsmen and bowlers making light work of the visitors. The Tim Paine-led side won both the games by an innings margin. And with the next Ashes set to be played in 2021, Vaughan opined that England will need to improve in several key areas in order to challenge the Aussies.

“At this stage, I don’t think England have got a chance in two years’ time unless they suddenly find one or two high-class bowlers from somewhere, and a high-class spinner,” Vaughan told while speaking to Fox Cricket, talking about England’s chances against Australia in next Ashes and the ongoing World Test Championship.

“I know we’re two years away but I don’t think England have got the tools to beat Australia in Australian conditions – particularly this Australian team. I was here last year when they played a quality India team and they lost, but you could feel there was still a little bit of rawness and obviously there was no David Warner and Steve Smith,” he added,
