As the first ODI between India and England unfolded at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, former England skipper Michael Vaughan simply could not keep his hands off Twitter. In fact, such was the manner in which the visitors slammed Eoin Morgan’s men that the victory came more as a chronic disbelief rather than a loss.
Vaughan, who has been part of several thrilling encounters between India and England over the years saw first hand from the commentary box what it was like to face the wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The former concluded with six wickets to his name in his quota of 10 overs, subsequently making this one of his better performances with the ball for India. In fact, the Brits had gotten off to a fine start with Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow taking apart the fast-bowling pair of Umesh Yadav and Siddharth Kaul.
Chasing a rather lowly score of 269 on a batting paradise, Rohit Sharma simply did not disappoint. Following that tremendous century in the final T20I in Bristol, Rohit resumed his ‘hitman’ duties with pleasure and was seemingly bullet-proof as well as he helped himself to his 18th ODI ton. His effortless ton ensured that the visitors claimed the first of the three-match ODI series.
While Kuldeep and Chahal were making inroads with the ball, Vaughan had taken to Twitter and stated that the Indian team management ought to give Kuldeep a chance in Test cricket, something they have done sparringly in the past.
Here is what Vaughan had to say on Twitter
Following the end of India’s comprehensive win, Vaughan went o to Tweet, “You don’t see this England ODI team get Schooled at home very often if at all these days ….. This India team look very very powerful ….. Anyway time for a pint #OnOn”
