Michael Vaughan makes a pro-India prediction ahead of the New Zealand game

Former England captain Michael Vaughan is a man who is terribly busy on social media. The 44-year-old, who currently working as a commentator and analyst, loves to predict game results of the matches and has been doing so in the ongoing World Cup. On Thursday, Vaughan predicted yet another win for India in the match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge even though the match is under the threat of rain.

Vaughan was trolled earlier for predicting games wrongly, even in tournaments like the Indian Premier League. However, his prediction of India winning their match against South Africa in Southampton on June 5 did not go wrong as Virat Kohli’s men thumped Faf du Plessis’ side by 6 wickets. After India’s 36-run win over Australia at the Oval, Vaughan remarked that India are the team to beat in the tournament.

The fans were not too convinced yet. On Thursday, he tweeted predicting an “easy win” for India against the Black Caps and some Indian fans came out lashing at him. Both India and New Zealand are the only two teams that have remained unbeaten so far in this competition. Kane Williamson’s side has played all Asian opponents so far.

While they beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, they defeated Bangladesh by two wickets and Afghanistan by seven wickets. India, too, have won both their games played so far. The two teams have met last time in the World Cup in the Super Six stage of the 2003 World Cup and on that occasion, Sourav Ganguly’s side won by 7 wickets after bowling out the Kiwis cheaply.

In their upcoming game against New Zealand, India will be missing opener Shikhar Dhawan who suffered a thumb injury in the game against Australia and have been ruled out for a few weeks. The loss is even bigger since Dhawan scored a century in the same match to help India win. The Men in Blue have called up Rishabh Pant as Dhawan’s cover although the senior cricketer will remain with the squad as his recovery will be kept under constant monitoring.
