The Indian bowlers like it has happened so often in the series were phenomenal dealing with the English top order. Though Alastair Cook who is playing his last Test had a wonderful partnership with Moeen Ali, once India broke through there was a barrage of wickets and England towards the end of the day were in deep trouble. Having resumed the day at 198/7 Jos Buttler carried on with Stuart Broad and took the team total over 300. After witnessing that Michael Vaughan expressed that the Indians let the game drift on the second morning.

Keaton Jennings like he has all through the series was dismissed for cheap. It was Ravindra Jadeja who gave India the first breakthrough. It took them a while but Jasprit Bumrah broke Cook’s defence while he was on 71 from 190 balls in the very next over Ishant Sharma got rid of Moeen Ali for 50 from 170 balls.

Ishant was bowling with a really good rhythm on the first day. He did take time to get into his grooves and thereafter consistently challenged the English batters. The home team’s skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow were dismissed for ducks and the middle order was just crumbling under pressure. Jadeja got rid of Bairstow and India had an entry into the lower-order.

The Sam Curran threat was dealt with really well by Sharma as he induced an edge on the second ball of his stay. Curran who had proved to be the biggest troublemaker for India with the bat departed for a duck and they were up against Buttler and Adil Rashid this morning. Rashid was dismissed in the 8th over of the morning but thereafter the Indians had no success in the session.

Buttler-Broad share a 98-run 9th wicket stand

Buttler was the man in charge while Stuart Broad also made his wicket count. The duo ensured England added 106 runs in 25 overs with a run rate of over 4. The ball was now in their court, India did manage to wrap things up soon after the partnership was broken but England have 332 runs on the board and considering the context of the match and the trent of the series is an excellent score.

Vaughan also echoed the same thoughts and said: India have let the game drift this morning … This will be a very competitive score on this pitch now ..”
