Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has stated that the issues with the bowlers not being able to back each other up are a certain concern. Arthur, who watched as his players failed to pick a wicket in the second innings of proceedings stated that the likes of Yasir Shah and Mohammad Amir need to be supported by the Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali should they have any chance of claiming a win in the third Test at Edgbaston.

“It is a real concern. He’s (Sohail Khan) got to back up. I thought he bowled exceptionally well in the first innings but the key is you’ve got to do it both innings. Mohammad Amir bowled outstandingly well. Yasir did the same. We just need a little bit of support for those two,” Arthur said on Friday (August 5).

While Arthur belittled the Pakistan pace attack, he went on to heap a ton of praises on Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali, the batsmen who were instrumental in helping Pakistan reach a score of 400 in the first innings.”That was real Test batting from Sami (Aslam) and Azhar (Ali),” Arthur said. “The lessons we’ve learnt from the tour, they were all put into place. They left well, they made England bowl at them.”

“Sami played outstandingly well for a young boy. He hasn’t had many opportunities this tour, but he’s worked so hard in the nets, he’s trained the house down,” Arthur said.

Finally, Mickey Arthur added that Pakistan would have to pick up wins outside their home conditions if they wanted to be the no. 1 Test team in the world. “I think the reality is if you want to be number one in the world you’ve got to be able to win away from home.  ”We’ve got a tough schedule — England here, then New Zealand away in two Tests in November and then we go and play in Australia, Boxing Day (Melbourne), the New Year (Sydney) and the night Test in Brisbane. ”But for us to be where we want to be, those are the series we’ve got to win.”
