Mickey Arthur in utter disbelief after watching Babar Azam get bowled for a duck
Babar was Lyon's fourth wicket in a span of 6 deliveries.
Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur was in utter disbelief as he watched Babar Azam lose his stumps to a Nathan Lyon delivery. Babar, who is often compared to India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli, had no answer to a top class delivery from the Australian off-spinner. Pakistan are currently taking on an inexperienced Australian XI in the second and final Test at Abu Dhabi.
Tim Paine’s side was on the ropes in the first Test, but a resilient century from Usman Khawaja bailed the visitors out and enforced a draw. Lyon spun the course of the game in his team’s favour on Day 1 of the second Test. In the span of 6 deliveries, he bagged four prized wickets, those of Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam, to push Pakistan right on the back foot on the first morning.
Lyon was on a hat-trick in the 20th over after he got rid of Azhar and Sohail, the latter for a golden duck. Although he wasn’t able to complete a hat-trick, his very next over was a double-wicket maiden as he picked up Shafiq and Babar, who were both back in the hut with ducks. As a result, the veteran offie went past former teammates Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson in the list of highest wicket-takers in Tests for Australia. He now stands behind three greats Dennis Lillee, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.
Mickey Arthur unimpressed at Babar’s shot selection
The wicket of Babar Azam took Pakistan’s coach Mickey Arthur by surprise as he did not expect the otherwise technically sound batsman to be dismissed in such fashion. Azam took a couple of steps out of his crease to play a shot towards the off-side. But the batsman missed the ball completely, which turned just enough to crash into leg stump and knock off the bails.
Arthur buried his head in his hands as he watched his side crumble to the off-spinner, and was particularly unimpressed by Babar’s shot selection.
Here is the video of Arthur’s reaction:
After a slump in the first session, debutant Fakhar Zaman and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed stitched a 147-run partnership for the sixth wicket to rescue the hosts. Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 282 in the first innings but were able to pick up two quick Australian wickets before Stumps on Day 1.
