The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have gone with the pair of Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli to open the innings over the past couple of years. It has always been debated if the skipper Kohli should open as his early dismissal leaves the team in a hole more often than not. This time around, the RCB have got Aaron Finch in their line-up who is a specialist opener.

However, the question arises if he will get a chance to play consistently in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as only four overseas players are allowed in the playing XI. The Director of Cricket Operations of the RCB, Mike Hesson, was asked the same question in a recent interaction and he chose to keep his cards close to his chest.

There is also a chance of Virat Kohli and Finch opening together this season but Hesson is not ready to reveal anything and has termed it as the team’s strategy. “It’s really interesting, I did a couple of hours of press conference but never talked about where Virat is batting or where Aaron finch is gonna bat or they’re opening the batting together.

“In reality from a director or coach point of view we wouldn’t wanna tell anybody exactly what our line-up is because that’s our strategy,” he said in a video uploaded by RCB on its official Twitter handle.

You just have to wait, says Mike Hesson

Mike Hesson realises that the fans are excited to know a lot of things about RCB’s team combination and the batting line-up. However, he has cleared that the management is not in the mood to reveal anything at the moment and has suggested everyone to just wait and watch how things unfold.

“We wanna keep some of those things up our sleeves in terms of where we use players. We know we’re going to be asked many questions about who’s going to bat where… You just have to wait. We’re well aware of what we want but we also wanna keep our opposition guessing,” the former New Zealand coach added. The 13th edition of the IPL is all set to get underway on September 19 with the schedule expected to be released this week.
