After Faruque Ahmed quit from the chief selector’s position a couple of days ago the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday announced his replacement. Former Bangladesh cricketer Minhajul Abedin has been appointed as the new chairman of selectors.

The BCB president Nazmul Hassan also said that the board had also brought back Habibul Bashar to the panel after he was asked to be the women’s selector since they have lost Faruque. “We have appointed Minhajul Abedin as the chief selector,” Nazmul said. “We have also brought back Habibul Bashar to this panel after we had asked him to be the women’s selector because we have lost Faruque.”

Faruque stepped down hours after he was appointed as the chief selector saying that the new system wouldn’t help Bangladesh cricket. He felt that the involvement of the board members in the selection process in too high an interference to be managed.

BCB chief Nazmul Hassan defended his new system saying, “there wasn’t a single time that I didn’t have to interfere with the team Faruque submitted to me. We had to sit with them every time. So I have created this new system so that I have minimum interference in selection.”

Abedin who was considered to be one of the best batsmen of Bangladesh was glad to take over as Faruque’s replacement.

“If there were any interferences we wouldn’t be able to work in the last five years,” Abedin said. “I think it is better not to think about these things and try to take Bangladesh cricket forward. I think the new system is more like what we have been doing previously where we have to approve the team from the cricket operations chairman and then to the board president,” he concluded.
