Misbah-ul-Haq, the charismatic skipper of the Pakistan Test team was fined 20 percent of his match fee due to the slow rate of the final day’s play at The Oval. The incident occurred on the final day of proceedings where the Pakistani players were subsequently accused of slow over rate shortly after Pakistan claimed a 10-wicket win in the final Test at the Oval to secure a series draw. Pakistan levelled the series 2-2 on Sunday, but Misbah and his team were penalized after failing to complete their overs in the allotted time.

The 42-year old now runs the risk of being suspended should he be charged with the offence once again. The rules of the ICC go on to state that a skipper can be suspended if found guilty more than a certain number of times within a period of 12 months. Should Misbah be found guilty of such an offence in the near future, he could well be suspended, leaving the Pakistanis shorthanded. The rest of the Pakistan XI was fined 10 percent of their match fees.

ICC match referee disclosed the reasons as well as the particulars for the fine, stating that Pakistan was found to be one over short once time allowances for drinks breaks, wickets, medical treatment and delays by the England batsmen were taken into consideration.
