Team Islamabad United won their second Pakistan Super League (PSL) title recently. They beat a strong Peshawar Zalmi is the finals of the tournament to seal the ultimate glory. The players were ecstatic and so was their skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. Albeit Misbah failed to play the finals of the season, he followed the finals up and close. He was very much involved in the process that preceded the finals.
Misbah had a wrist injury that forced him to miss the ultimate game of the season. Recently, as per the quotes in Geo.tv, Misbah-ul-Haq showered praises on his team and looked mighty impressed with one cricketer in particular. He showered praises on young Asif Ali, who proved to be a fiery hitter for the Islamabad United in the season this year.
In the finals, it was Asif Ali who hit three sixes to finish off the game in style for his side. Following his heroics in the PSL 2018, Asif Ali bagged a national call up for the upcoming three match T20I series against the Windies. Misbah expressed his delight over the news and remarked that the Pakistan team needs a hitter like Asif Ali.
“I’ve always said that the Pakistan team needs a [power-hitting] batsman like Asif Ali, who can come in during the middle overs and hit with a strike rate of 160, 170. That momentum has been missing [from the national team]. He has a good temperament and will hopefully contribute [his best] to the Pakistan team as well,” Misbah-ul-Haq quoted.
On the team’s performance
Commenting on the superlative win of the Islamabad United, Misbah-ul-Haq remarked that the belief was always there in the camp. They had very strong plans for every game and the bench strength of the team was also very good. He credited the team for their stupendous run in the season.
“Credit to the players, to the entire team. From the selection to execution, we did our homework. We had a very strong bench, with backups for every position [in case of any injury etc.] All this benefitted us,” remarked the United skipper.
