Following a poor run f form with the bat, Misbah-ul-Haq has seen his stock as a batsman come down rather significantly. However, the 42-year old has been one of the best captains churned out by Pakistan in recent times and has also gone on to become their most successful skippers in recent times as well.

However, this is something that comes as a rather massive surprise given Misbah’s popularity with the players in recent times. The 42-year old oversaw Pakistan’s ascend to the world number one ranking earlier this year before they were significantly dethroned by India after hardly a month at the top.

While his age of 42 years sees him as one of the most likely candidates to retire, he had repulsed the answer a few short months back when he was asked the same question following Pakistan’s exploits in England. A reporter had prodded Misbah with the question before and had an interesting reply,

The 42-year old had stated earlier that it was important for him to stay a part of the side as the tour of New Zealand and the subsequent tour of Australia was going to need players with massive responsibility. However, in spite of this, Pakistan has fallen terribly short of the pace with the Asian giants falling victims to both sides down under.

Addressing the media after the match, Misbah said he will make a decision regarding retirement in the coming days. “I will decide about retirement within the next two to three days,” he said. “Since I am not performing with the bat recently, I know I don’t deserve a place in the team right now,” he added.

Whether Misbah-ul-Haq retires or not remains to be seen, but there will certainly be a popular vote for him to be a part of the side in the next couple of months at the very least.
