New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson opened up about missing the T20 World Cup last year which was hosted by India and held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between October and November and revealed that it was a low point in his career. Ferguson was ruled out of the squad owing to a calf injury that he had sustained prior to the campaign.
Before the start of the World Cup, the pacer had represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 and looked in fine touch. But he said that missing out on the global event was a major setback in his career. Ferguson has been a regular in the New Zealand side and has always been a dependable bowler.
“Definitely. Yeah. Of course. That (missing the 2021 T20 World Cup) was probably one of the low points in my career. Missing that opportunity, particularly in the UAE, where I’ve had some success in the IPL I was feeling good about my bowling leading into that tournament, and always joining my good mates and playing for the Black Caps is something I cherish,” Ferguson was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.
We’ve got an exciting squad, again, and the boys enjoy playing World Cups: Lockie Ferguson
Ferguson was a part of the champions team Gujarat Titans this year. While he was hit for some big runs, he kept up with his game and went on to bowl the fastest delivery of the season during the finale against Rajasthan Royals as his side lifted the cup eventually. Ferguson mentioned that he had been working hard on himself to improve his game even better and play a key role for his team in the World Cup this year in Australia.
“You can’t really look back too much and you’ve to look forward. We’ve got a lot of cricket and a lot of travel coming up, then home for a little bit, and a few series leading into the World Cup. So, there is an opportunity there to work on my game and make sure that it’s as good as possible leading into that World Cup. We’ve got an exciting squad, again, and the boys enjoy playing World Cups,” he added.
Ferguson will be next seen representing the Black Caps in the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series against Ireland.
