The contest between the bat and the ball isn’t as even as it was a few years ago. Pitches are being made to suit the batsmen more and there is a daylight gap between the two disciplines of the game. However, the pitch at Perth brought a sigh of relief for the true cricket fans. Despite ICC’s verdict, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar seemed to be impressed with the track at the new Optus stadium.
The second Test between Australia and India was played at the new Optus Stadium and the pitch tested both the batsmen as well as the bowlers. It had something for everyone and kept both the sides in the game for the maximum duration of the match. Yet, the ICC Match Referee declared the pitch as ‘average’ to which Sachin contradicted. He even shared his opinions on Twitter with which former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson completely agreed.
The demand for TESTing pitches
‘Pitches play a crucial role, especially in Test cricket. In order to revive Test cricket and generate excitement, we need to provide more pitches like the one at Perth, where the skills of batsmen and bowlers are truly TESTed. This pitch was by no means “Average”,’ wrote Sachin Tendulkar in his tweet.

To this, Johnson put up a simple reply. ‘I agree,’ he wrote and put the clapping emoji at the end of his tweet.

Australia won this game at Perth by a massive 146 runs and levelled the series 1-1. The pitch assisted the batsmen early on in the game. Then the pacers came in and yielded rewards with some good bowling. As the match progressed, there were cracks that opened up and there were also rough patches on the track which eventually assisted the spinners.
The batsmen weren’t offered any free runs and had to work extremely hard for every single run that they scored. Moreover, even the bowlers were required to be disciplined and had to hit the right areas quite consistently.
