2018 has probably been the worst year of this century so far in the Australian cricket. They’ve struggled in almost all the forms of the game thanks to the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner. The Test team is completely dismantled at the moment with places up for grabs for almost every position in the top six. Australia are at the cusp of losing the Boxing Day Test after a long time and the situation is too poor that they are hoping for the rain to save them.
They ended the fourth day at 258/8 chasing a mammoth 399 against India and only the rain forecast has kept the team, former cricketers and the fans hopeful of saving the game. The visitors could’ve wrapped up the contest on Saturday itself but Pat Cummins batted out of his skins to keep them at bay. Though their backs are against the wall, there is a glimmer of hope with 60 percent chances of rain on the final day.
Meanwhile, the former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson also lauded the duo of Cummins and Nathan Lyon hoping for the rain to spoil India’s plans of taking a lead in the series.
Fan questions the Australian way
Having dominated the first decade of the 21t century, Australia always fought till the end, the attitude which was visible in Adelaide Test as well. But things have gone worse in Melbourne as they failed to get hold of the conditions and India did extremely well in all the departments to steamroll them. Despite a stunning fight from Cummins, it looks unlikely that he will be able hold the fort for the whole of the fifth day.
But everyone in Australia is now hoping for the heavens to open up on Sunday which definitely indicates that their cricket is on a decline this year. One of the fans on Twitter reminded Mitchell Johnson of the same and expected for him to encourage the last two wickets to win the game. In a way, he tried to troll the cricketer as he knew that scoring the remaining runs is not at all possible for the hosts at the moment.
But Johnson, who is on a roll on social media these days responding to as many followers as possible, came up with a hilarious response just for the sake of that Indian fan. He funnily predicted for Cummins to score 120 and Lyon to end up in the 90s while also saying that the home side will clinch the victory to take the lead in the series.
Here’s the thread of the convo:

This is not the Australian way Mitch! It'll be like "Cmon boys only 180 needed to win let's do it", To be honest I haven't seen Aussies blocking and hoping for rains till date!😬
