Mitchell Marsh says that the doctors feared for the worse after he was hit in groin in the nets
Mitchell Marsh was given the all-clear to feature in Western Australia’s next match against South Australia.
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is undergoing a tough time recently. Marsh, who was dropped from the Australian team from all the three formats, and had returned to the domestic Sheffield Shield tournament to regain form and get in contention for the Australia World Cup squad, suffered a serious injury in nets.
27-year-old Mitch Marsh has played 31 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 T20Is for Australia and was recently named the co vice-captain of the team in T20Is. Marsh saw a dip in form recently and injuries have not helped him stake a claim for the World Cup or the 2019 Ashes. Marsh was dropped from the last two Tests against India and from the two-Test series against Sri Lanka and was overlooked for the limited-overs tour of India.
Recently, Marsh was preparing for the Sheffield Shield game between Western Australia and New South Wales and was batting in the nets. He was facing throw-downs from the support staff when one ball behaved awkwardly and hit Marsh in the nether regions. Marsh immediately went down and the injury was confirmed by WA official Nick Jones.
He was taken to the hospital immediately and underwent surgery after he was found to be bleeding in the groin region rather than anything worse. However, the all-rounder revealed that though the damage was not as serious as initially thought off, doctors feared for the worse, as he experienced pain for more than 30 minutes after being hit.
Doctors immediately sent Marsh for scans as they feared that he might have suffered terrible trauma to his testicles and might have potentially ruptured one. However, much to the relief of many, the scans revealed nothing as such, apart from bleeding from the nether regions.
Marsh Ready to be back
Mitchell Marsh was given the all-clear to feature in Western Australia’s next match against South Australia. Marsh admitted that there was still some mental thing to get over, as he is physically ready to be back in action.
He said to The Australian, “Physically, I’m ready to go. I’m going to be pretty sore still going into the game, but that’s fine. In that area, it’s more a mental thing getting back into it. Once you get out in the middle and your competitive juices are flowing, I won’t be thinking about this at all.”
