With skipper, Virat Kohli opted to rest for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and the BCCI handed over the captaincy honours to opener Rohit Sharma. His Mumbai Indians counterpart New Zealander Mitchell McClenaghan extended his best wishes to Rohit ahead of his maiden international captaincy stint.
The 30-year-old has successfully led MI to 3 title wins in the Indian Premier League. However, This will be the first time, the Mumbai Indians captain will get the opportunity to lead his nation. He has been the designated vice-captain of the side since Virat took over as the leader.
It hasn’t been an easy journey for Rohit. He has had his own share of ups and downs. There’s no doubt that he’s going to relish his captaincy stint against Sri Lanka. The Indian opener who recently completed a decade of international cricket will become the 24th player to lead the Indian One Day International side.
Mitchell McClenaghan who has been a part of the Mumbai Indians unit congratulated Rohit Sharma on the landmark. He posted a picture of the duo on Instagram and captioned:- “When you find out your boy @rohitsharma45 gets to live his dream of captaining India”.
He further took on to Twitter to wish his mate ahead of the challenge.

It will be interesting to see how Rohit fares with captaincy at the international level. While he’s managed to crack it in the IPL, international is surely going to be a different game.
