Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is all set to make a comeback to international cricket. The Aussie speedster was ruled out of the India Test series midway through the tour due to an injury. Now, he has recovered well and is all set to make a comeback to the Australian colors in the all important ICC Champions Trophy. Starc is confident of putting up a good show in the mega event.
Mitchell Starc believes that the Australian squad for the tournament is very balanced. The pace attack, in particular, is going to wreak havoc this season, remarked Starc. He mentioned that he is the oldest pacer in the lineup and is only 27. So that explains the young blood in the pace quartet of – Starc, James Pattinson, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.
“We’ve had our issues with injury but Patty’s (James Pattinson) only just turned 24 – I’m 27 and I’m the oldest – so we’ve still got plenty of time to wreak havoc on batsmen around the world. Hopefully, that starts with the Champions Trophy and then onwards to the Ashes later in the year,” quoted Mitchell Starc as per the quotes in Deccan Chronicle.
Rising through the ranks together
He further added that the four pacers share great camaraderie between them. Starc cited that all these bowlers have evolved together as players in the national set up. Hence, the combination of these pacers is an exciting phase for Australian cricket.
“We’ve sort of grown up and come through the ranks together, but haven’t had the chance to be in the same squad together. I think it’s an exciting time for the four of us and for Australian cricket too,” said Starc.
Lastly, he spoke about the fact that they are capable of batting as well which is only an additional benefit that the team has got. “I think the fact that we can all bat presents a stronger case for that,” conceded the Aussie pacer.
