Mitchell Starc celebrates with wife Alyssa Healy as Australia win gold at CWG 2022
Starc was also present in the ground when Australia won the 2022 World Cup defeating England.
Team Australia scripted history after defeating India Women in the cricket competition of the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) and clinching the gold medal on August 7 (Sunday). Australia’s express pacer Mitchell Starc joined his wife Alyssa Healy to celebrate their team’s victory at the mega event.
In one of the photos posted from the official Instagram handle of Cricket Australia, both Starc and Healy can be seen posing together for a picture with the latter holding her prized gold medal. To note, this is not the first time that Starc came to cheer for her wife as the speedster was also present during the 2022 Women’s World Cup where the Women in Yellow defeated the defending champions England and won the prized trophy.
Healy did not contribute much in the gold medal match
The wicketkeeper-batter did not had much of a say during the gold medal match as she was scalped by pacer Renuka Singh after scoring just seven runs off 12 deliveries. However, Beth Mooney (61 runs), and skipper Meg Lanning (36) laid a strong base for the Women in Yellow to post a challenging total for team India.
Despite India picking wickets at regular intervals, batters Ashleigh Gardner (25 runs), and Rachael Haynes (18 runs) small but crucial contributions with the bat meant that the Women in Yellow finished on 161/8 in their allotted 20 overs. For India, Renuka and Sneh Rana scalped two wickets each.
In reply, India had a shaky start as they lost both their openers within the field restrictions. However, an excellent 96-run partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur ensured that the Women in Blue make a strong comeback in the match.
Just when it was looking like India will manage to chase the target, a collapse followed as they lost their remaining seven wickets for just 31 runs and handed victory to the Aussie team. Gardner was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as she scalped a total of three wickets and gave away just 16 runs in her three overs.
