Australia speedster Mitchell Starc and women’s team wicketkeeper-batswoman Alyssa Healy are perhaps the power couple of world cricket today. While Starc has been the lynchpin of Kangaroos for some years now, Alyssa Healy, on the other hand, has become the top batter in the cricket world today. Therefore, when Starc decided to fly down from South Africa to Melbourne to watch her play in the finals; the world awed collectively.

Starc was playing in the three-match ODI series for Australia against South Africa in the rainbow nation. He had been in great form, having the number of opposition captain Quinton de Kock in both the matches he played. He picked three wickets in two matches, though Australia lost both the matches and the series. Hence when he asked for permission to leave the tour mid-way, it was granted, as the squad had enough backup to cover for him.

His journey of over 10,000 kms was worth the while, as wife Alyssa set the MCG on fire with a brilliant 75 with 7 fours and 5 sixes. She added 115 runs with opening partner Beth Mooney (78*) and set the stage for Southern Stars’ fifth T20 World Cup victory. She brought up the milestone in 30 balls, which is also the second-fastest half-century in Women’s T20 World Cups. Starc was seen cheering his wife from the VIP box at the MCG. Alyssa was also named the Player of the Match, while Beth Mooney was given the Player of the Tournament award.

‘Couple goals for sure’: Sania Mirza

Meanwhile, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, who is the wife of former Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik, reacted to Starc preferring to watch his wife play in the final of an ICC event and travelling so far to support her. She found it extremely adorable and called it a couple goals for the duo. She also mentioned that had it being a cricketer from the sub-continent doing the same for his spouse, he would have been ridiculed as a slave of his wife or in Hindi, “Joru ka Ghulaam.”

“Sure thing !! God forbid it would be a guy from the subcontinent, the guy would be called a ‘joru ka ghulaam’ in one second 😅 good on you Mitchell 👍🏽 couple goals for sure!! #beentheredonethat 🤣,” she tweeted.
