The Indian Women’s team had a fairytale campaign in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Though the team could not cross the final hurdle against England, their performance hints at a massive future for Women’s cricket in the country. Mithali Raj and her team were praised by celebrities all over the world and the country is proud to have these players in the ranks.

The main story:

Following their tremendous campaign, Railways have decided to offer the post of Gazetted Officers to Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur who were outstanding in the tournament. The Indian skipper scored a staggering 409 runs in the tournament which is just one short of Tammy Beaumont of England who was the leading run scorer of the tournament. Raj scored a brilliant century against New Zealand in their final group stage match which saw the women in blue through to the semis.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who hails from Moga, Punjab took the responsibility on her shoulders in the all important semi-final against the Australians. She manhandled the Aussie bowlers as she went berserk with the bat at the Derby ground. Her brilliant inning of 171 runs sank the Australians and booked a berth for India in the mega final.

Both Mithali and Harmanpreet made the ICC WWC XI which was released by the ICC a few days ago. Mithali Raj was given the honour of leading the World XI which is a huge achievement for the veteran. Mithali also got a brand new BMW car as a gift from Chamundeswaranath, former junior national selection committee chairman and now vice-president of Telangana Badminton Association.

However, the news of the Railways offering the two valiant warriors the post of Gazetted Officers was confirmed by the ANI in a tweet. The Railways will also present 10 members of the squad with a cash prize of Rs. 1.30 crore for their sparkling performance in the WWC.
