With age not on her side, probably Mithali Raj won’t get the privilege of lifting the prestigious ICC World Cup Trophy. While the Indian skipper is aware of that fact she managed to control her emotions during the post match presentation ceremony. However, the valiant warrior let her emotions flow in the team meeting after the grand finale.

After India’s solid start to the run chase, the World Cup trophy looked a matter of few minutes. While the whole nation started gearing up for a historic triumph, the Indian batting order collapsed like a pack of cards in the later stages. Ripped apart like a pod of peas by the English bowlers, the Indians got bundled out for 219 runs which were 9 runs short of their target.

The main story:

Questions were raised regarding captain Mithali Raj and the manner in which she lost her wicket. While some blamed her run out as an act of irresponsibility the skipper was brought under scrutiny. In an exclusive interview with Times of India, Raj finally opened up about the dismissal.

Mithali Raj claimed that she is aware of the fact that the run out is being put up in a wrong way all across social media. According to Mithali, her spike got stuck in the ground which prevented her from running freely. She mentioned that when Punam Raut asked her for a run she obliged but the spike did not allow her to do so with ease. She admitted to being helpless at that moment.

“I saw some weird stuff written about my run out on social media. Actually, what happened was my spike got stuck on the pitch. Punam called me for a run and I responded. Before I reached the half way, this thing (spike getting stuck) happened and I don’t think the TV cameras captured it. I couldn’t push myself hard and couldn’t even make an effort to dive. I was helpless. I was gutted.” concluded the skipper.
