Mithali Raj reveals her reading secret and reacts to her emoji
Mithali scored the 7th consecutive half century in ODIs but was trending for some other reason.
Mithali Raj played a fantastic knock to give India their first win of the Women’s World Cup. She broke the world record for most consecutive fifties in the One Day cricket. The Indian skipper is in scintillating form and that has been one of the reasons for the team’s success in recent times. They have won 17 out of their 18 One Day Internationals.
Mithali along with the openers Poonam Raut and Smriti Mandhana did a great job yesterday as India thumped favourites England in the World Cup opener. All the three scored fifties as Smriti and Poonam missed out on a century as they were intercepted close to triple figures. They were absolutely fantastic on the day and gave England little chance of coming into the game.
The reading lady
While Mithali Raj was leading the charge on the field she was trending on Twitter as well. She was one of the talking points of the game as the Indian skipper was caught by the camera reading when the openers were smashing the England bowlers. That moment went viral as many on Twitter hailed her for her calmness.
Mithali has a dedicated emoji on Twitter of her on and reacting to that she said that it is important for the women’s cricket to get global and felt great about it. Raj was talking to the presenters after the game when she said, “It feels great to have your own emoji and it’s good for women’s cricket and it gives quite an importance to women’s cricketers.”
She also explained why she was reading before going into bat saying that she had a book since Kindle is not allowed and she borrowed it from the fielding coach. Raj said, “Since Kindle is not allowed, I had to borrow books from the fielding coach. He gave me this book by Rumi on Life’s Essentials so I was just reading that. I am into reading a lot and even before getting into batting I am always with Kindle or books because it calms me down and also I don’t get those jitters before getting into batting.”
