Chamundeswaranath, former junior national selection committee chairman and now vice-president of Telangana Badminton Association has decided to gift Indian women’s team skipper Mithali Raj with a brand new BMW car after her stellar performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
Chamundi was also present in 2007 when legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar presented the first ever car to Mithali Raj in a similar gesture. He intends to hold a felicitation ceremony to present the gift despite India’s loss to England in the final. The details including the date and the time will be revealed very soon.
According to Chamundi, Mithali Raj will be rewarded irrespective of the result in the final because of being a true server of the nation and her immense contribution to Indian women’s cricket over the past 17 years.
Meanwhile, R.S.R. Murthy, Mithali’s mentor-cum-coach from South Central Railway informed that the Indian Railways have decided to accolade the Indian players too. In Indian Railways’ efforts to congratulate the team, they have decided to give all the 10 members of the current Indian team a surprise promotion for their outstanding display in the tournament.
The match:
The Indian Women’s team’s exceptional journey in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 could not finish on a high as they lost the final match to hosts England. Batting first at Lords, the Three Lions were not particularly good with their batting as they managed to put up a target of 228 runs on the board. Natalie Sciver, who had been in tremendous form throughout the tournament top scored for them with 51 runs.
Coming on to chase the target, the Indians looked firm on grabbing the win at one point of time. But in an amazing turn around of events, the Indian batting line up was ripped apart like a pod of peas in the later stages. A careless shot by Veda Krishnamurthy put curtains to India’s hopes of winning the World Cup. England lifted the 2017 World Cup at Lords as India got bundled out for a score of 219.
