Moeen Ali, Steven Finn suffers injuries; uncertain for Ashes in Australia
The duo will undergo scans in Perth on Friday.
England’s 2017-2018 Ashes tour of Australia has been rocked by injuries to two key players during team’s second net session at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground (WACA) in Perth before the first Test on November 23. Their spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali’s availability in the upcoming Ashes is uncertain with a side strain while fast bowler Steven Finn suffered a knock on his left knee during the practice session at WACA.
After getting hit in the forearm Finn fell on the ground in pain and subsequently rushed to the change room. As per the English team management, the duo will undergo scans in Perth on Friday. Both Finn and Ali have been ruled out from this weekend’s first two-day tour match against Western Australia XI at the WACA.
While England are travelling to defend the Ashes title, that they won in 2015 at home, injuries to two vital cogs of the team Ali and Finn is a serious blow to the team. As of now, both Ali and Finn’s future in this Ashes tour is still uncertain and will be known on Friday.
Steven Finn a replacement for suspended all-rounder Ben Stokes
Since England all-rounder, Ben Stokes has been suspended for an indefinite time for allegedly being involved in a street fight, Finn was named his replacement. Stokes is a key player for England. During the 2015 Ashes, Stokes played a key role for England’s overwhelming victory over rivals Australia. Owing to his suspension many former players slammed Stokes for his lifestyles which may cost England during their Ashes defence in Australia, who at home will be ready to take revenge for their humiliating defeat against England.
With Stokes is uncertain for the Ashes Finn has been selected as his replacement. In the last summer Ashes in England, Moeen Ali was also a key figure in England’s success. Now, these two injuries have added a wrinkle on the team management’s forehead.
Moeen so far has played 44 Tests for England. Over the years, he not only helped England with his off-spin but also with his crafty batting at the middle order. He has a batting average of 34.66 and has five Test hundreds under his belt and 12 fifties to his name. At the same time, he has 128 wickets at an average of 37.32.
