Moeen Ali took the game away from us with his special innings: Jason Holder

The Windies cricket team had a poor and dismal outing in the third ODI against England at Bristol. The hosts continued their dominance and supremacy over the in-experienced visiting side with a convincing victory of 124 runs. The Englishmen now have a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series and will surely be rich in confidence for the upcoming two games left in the series. On the other hand, Windies skipper Jason Holder felt that his side failed to control the game after a decent start.

The England side led by Eoin Morgan posted a mammoth total of 369 runs after a splendid hundred from Moeen Ali and some useful contributions from Joe Root and Ben Stokes. The huge first innings total surely did look like a daunting task for the Windies batters. However, the visitors showed some glimpses of retrieving the run-chase with opener Chris Gayle scoring a 94-run knock. But their hopes were shattered after Gayle’s wicket and the Windies got bowled out for 245 runs.

We had a decent start with the ball

Holder felt that his team couldn’t put the hosts under pressure after a decent start with the ball. “I felt we got off to a decent start. We got wickets with the new ball, which we pride ourselves on. Things started to leak a little bit then we pulled it back with a couple of wickets. I thought Miguel was outstanding in the middle overs coming back and getting those two prize wickets. We just didn’t finish off well,” Holder said after the game.

The skipper reckoned that Moeen Ali’s incredible century was a special inning and took the game completely away from their hands.

“They bat deep. [Moeen] has played a special innings today. I think we didn’t execute our plans towards him and he was able to capitalise on the dimensions of the ground,” he added.

We didn’t fielded well

The Windies skipper stated that the boys didn’t field well and a lot of chances dropped on the small ground, which is a major area to be inspected and improved in the coming matches.

“It’s a small ground and he backed himself to clear it. We didn’t field well, we were a just bit sloppy, a couple of misfields and dropped chances,” concluded Holder.
