Before the ICC World T20 in 2016, Indian star batsman Rohit Sharma termed Pakistani speedster Mohammad Amir as an ordinary bowler. Though Amir chose to remain silent that time, he has spoken up on the matter now. Mohammad Amir dismissed Sharma in the all important Champions Trophy final last month for a duck. Pakistan went onto win the match which saw the men in green lift the trophy for the first time in history.
Rohit Sharma had claimed that the buzz surrounding Mohammad Amir is a bit too much because Amir is not something out of the ordinary. Sharma also pointed out that the bowler can be dangerous on his day but comparing him with the likes of Wasim Akram is like flattering the bowler without any reason.
“There is just so much hype around him. I don’t think it is right to give him too much hype after one match. He is good but he needs to prove it over and over again. Now people are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. He is just a normal bowler, on that given day if he is good, he is good. It is not as if he turns up and blows everyone away,” said Rohit.
The main story:
Mohammad Amir has finally opened his mouth after proving a point to Rohit Sharma. Sharma has a dismal record against the bowler as he has just managed 19 runs from 49 deliveries against Amir. Amir has also sent Sharma back to the pavilion on 3 occasions.
In an exclusive interview with PakPassion.com, Mohammad Amir had his say on the statement. A humble Amir said that Rohit Sharma’s views are completely his own but he hopes they have changed now. Amir added that Sharma is an outstanding batsman and his contributions for India are worth praising. Amir went on to add that he has immense respect as a cricketer for Rohit Sharma.
“That was his opinion about me and he is entitled to that opinion. Maybe his opinion about me has now changed. But let’s get one thing clear, I would never call him an ordinary batsman in fact I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him. His opinions about other cricketers are up to him, but with all due respect I never worry about what other cricketers have to say about me.” said Amir.
“It’s not my concern at all and I just concentrate on my performances and what I am doing for my team. If I worried about other people’s opinions of me that would just cause me stress and that is why I avoid it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it’s labelling a cricketer world-class or ordinary; it is up to that individual,” Aamer added.
