Premier Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Amir made his County Championships debut on Monday. The day of June 26 proved to be a good one for the pacer. While his Pakistani team mates celebrated the day with the festivities of Eid, Amir gave his fans the reason to rejoice with his bowling spell. Amir debuted for Essex in the fixture against Middlesex.
The match is being played at the home venue of Essex, County Ground at Chelmsford. Mohammad Amir was quick to be in action as he got his first wicket in the very first over that he bowled. He shared the new ball with James Porter as the first innings of Middlesex unfolded on the day. On the last ball of his very first over, he trapped opener Nick Gubbins lbw. The ball pitched in line with the stumps and turned back sharply.
The batsman was completely perplexed and missed it as the swinging ball crashed into his pads. The umpire took very little time to rule him out. Amir was handed over the County contract soon after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy. Over the years, there have always been talks about Amir’s potential to excel in the English conditions.
He had wreaked havoc when he had first toured England back in 2010 with some exceptional swing bowling. However, the infamous spot fixing scandal followed and things went down to a dim verge for Mohammad Amir. Now that he has made a comeback to international cricket after his suspension, he is leaving no stone unturned in order to be a premier world class bowler.
Recent heroics
In the Champions Trophy final against India, it was Amir’s fiery spell that dismantled the Indian top order. He dismissed the top three batsmen in quick succession to derail the Indian team out of the game. He was instrumental in shaping Pakistan’s historic win. Now, he seems to be doing a fair job for Essex and would want to continue on the same. Recently, he had even expressed that he is loving his time in the Essex dressing room. He noted that all players, Alastair Cook in particular, are very welcoming.
