Pakistan’s spearhead Mohammad Amir has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka as he has suffered a stress-related injury of his right shin. This comes in as a huge blow to the host side’s ambitions as they have already struggled badly in the Test series. Amir has been ruled out for the next two to three weeks.
Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the news through a statement and they also mentioned that if their side needs him desperately, he might come out to bat. Sri Lanka has mounted a huge total ahead of the hosts and it’d take an awfully brilliant effort to get anywhere close to a winning position.
“The fast bowler has been advised two to three weeks rest after he underwent an MRI scan today following complains of pain in his right shin,” a PCB statement said. “Amir will not bowl in the ongoing Test match at the Dubai Cricket Stadium but would be available to bat.”
Was the injury neglected?
There are a lot of questions being raised about the Pakistan team management. Mohammad Amir was unable to complete his over as he was in a state of discomfort, due to which Yasir Shah came out to bowl the remainder of the over on the first day. He was under observation overnight as the management initially said he was suffering from pain in his left shin.
Surprisingly on the second day, he was back on the field and bowled the 11th over of the afternoon. He was clearly in no position to complete the over and yet again, he was taken off the field. Post that, he was taken for an MRI scan, which revealed the extent of the injury to his right shin.
If the management knew there was some concern, why didn’t they go for the scanning thing after the first day? Well, this still remains an unanswered question and it’ll be interesting to see how long it’ll take for him to recover. Pakistan currently trail by 431 runs in the second Test and with three days remaining, they can maximum pull out a draw and Sri Lanka are well on their way towards a historic series win.
Who’ll replace him?
Talented 23-year-old youngster Usman Khan Shinwari will replace Mohammad Amir in the ODI series.
