Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul went to the popular talk show Koffee with Karan. The all-rounder made some controversial comments on the show, which were not taken well by both fans and critics. BCCI took an action and suspended the duo as they investigated the matter to decide the punishment.

The tainted duo was asked to return to India as they were not allowed to feature in the ODI series against Australia. However, the CoA lifted the suspensions yesterday. Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has come out to back the youngsters as he claimed that they have suffered enough.

The former Indian batsman seemed to be clearly unhappy with the functioning of CoA as they took too long to give their verdict. He claimed that the Supreme Court appointed committee should have appointed an ombudsman instead of going to the Supreme Court. With suspensions lifted, Hardik Pandya is now expected to join the Indian team in New Zealand while KL Rahul is getting ready to face England Lions.

“COA should have appointed the ombudsman in the first place. There was no need to go to the Supreme Court. I don’t think COA has done a very good job. Good for the team (that Pandya is likely to join India in New Zealand) – both boys have really suffered. They have unconditionally apologized. They (COA) should have taken the decision immediately. Hope the players do not do such things again,” Azharuddin told India Today.

Mohammad Azharuddin wants Rahul and Pandya to focus on the field

The wristy right-handed batsman further added that KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya now have a reason to be happy. He also talked about the importance of mental toughness as the pair strives to put this episode behind them. Azharuddin said that Rahul and Pandya have now spoken enough on TV, and it is time for them to let their performances speak for them.

“They (Pandya and Rahul) should feel very happy. It will now come out how tough they are mentally. They have to move on because it’s all in the past. They have spoken enough but now their on-field performance should speak for them.” Mohammad Azharuddin said.
