Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is in a league of his own, and it appears as if his nearest competitor is miles away from his prowess. The lad from Delhi has often carried the team on his shoulders and has delivered whenever the team needed him the most. For his distinct ability to lead from the front, many cricket enthusiasts compare him with Sachin Tendulkar. Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin revealed that the won’t be surprised if Kohli goes on to shatter Tendulkar‘s record.
The 54-year-old from Hyderabad also spoke on the latest yo-yo tests that are carried nowadays to ensure the fitness level of a player. One must clear this test to get the opportunity to don the blue jersey. However, just like former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, Azhar is not a fan of the tests and feels that even if a player is not very fit, he must be given a chance in the team owing to his performances.
“These days we conduct a yo-yo test for fitness, which has different type of drill which you have to pass. I feel if one is good in cricket and a little less in fitness should be accepted,” said Azhar. Talking about the Sachin-Virat comparison, he stated, “Virat Kohli is a big player and comparing any player with someone else is really difficult, Sachin had his own aura and so did Sunil Gavaskar in his time. Virat has a different style of playing and planning, it would be no surprise if in the later run he breaks Sachin’s record also.”
