This is a season of star kids making the headlines in cricket. We have already seen sons of former Indian players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Joshi making news recently. Now, it’s turn for Mohammad Asaduddin, the son of another former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin to steal the limelight. The 28-year-old batsman has reportedly found a place in the Ranji Trophy squad for Goa for the upcoming season.

Goa of late has decided to look ahead in picking its players but its move to take Hyderabad’s Asaduddin who is yet to feature in any Ranji Trophy game has been seen as unique. Asaduddin had last played for a state team in 2009 when he featured in Hyderabad Colts XI in Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup. Five years later, he shifted to UP but did not get a chance to play.

Asaduddin approached Goa cricket body

The report said Asaduddin approached the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) a few months ago and since the body decided to ignore senior players from the side, it went ahead to rope in the former. The batsman had been playing for MP Colts in Hyderbad’s A-division league cricket regularly.

“I was part of the IPL auctions too but did not get picked. I was playing well in the local circuit and approached a few associations. That’s how it happened,” Asaduddin told Sportstar.

Asaduddin also attended an anti-corruption seminar organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India at GCA’s headquarters the same day. The man, who is looking forward to the opportunity, said, “I did not get an opportunity to play from Hyderabad. So, whoever gives me a chance, I will play. And with all sorts of problems in the HCA, I don’t see a chance.”

Asaduddin’s progress will definitely please his renowned father who lost his other son Ayazuddin in a motorbike crash in 2011. Ayazuddin, 19 then, was also a budding cricketer and his death had left Azhar, who was an MP then, devastated.

“My dad is really happy for me. This is a big opportunity for me. I will try to give my best in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy,” Asaduddin said.
