Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in the recently-concluded three-match T20I series by 2-0. The highlight of that series was the arrival of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik back into their top-notch form with the bat. And, now, Misbah-ul-Haq has opened up saying that the experienced duo is still part of their plans for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2020 that is slated to be held in Australia starting on October 18.
Men in Green outclassed Tigers with sheer dominance in the first two games of the series. In the first T20I, Shoaib Malik set the winning stage for his team with his responsible knock of 58 runs. He was also awarded Man of the Match for his valuable contribution with the bat. In the next game, Mohammad Hafeez played an elegant knock of 67 runs off 49 balls. Moreover, he ended as the top run-scorer in the 2nd T20I for his side.
Misbah-ul-Haq opines on the experienced duo
Pakistan cricket team looked quite different after their veteran cricketers marked their return back into the form. It turned out to be one of the biggest positives for the Men in Green in the recently-concluded T20I series. Now, Misbah-ul-Haq, the chief selector and head coach of Pakistan said that there are chances that Malik and Hafeez can be the part of their team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Misbah also added the fact that the duo performed extremely well with the bat against the ‘Tigers‘. The age of the players is not a matter of concern until and unless they are performing well in their respective traits according to the former player. He recited that it would be an added advantage to have senior players like Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez in the team. Babar Azam, the T20I captain of Pakistan is also keen to bring back the experienced duo into the team.
“Hafeez and Malik could be part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup. I think they have performed well and they still have something to contribute to Pakistan cricket. Age is not an issue as long as a player is fit and in form, he can contribute to his team. I think we require seniors like Hafeez (39) and Malik (37) and even captain, Babar Azam supported their selection,” Misbah-ul-Haq said as quoted by Times of India.
Actually, Hafeez and Malik were ruled out from the national side following their woeful performances in the 2019 World Cup. But, they were recalled back into the team for the T20I series against Bangladesh. And, the veteran duo grabbed the opportunity with both hands and utilised it to the fullest.
