Ex-Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez has been around in international cricket for 14 years now. He played a hand in Pakistan’s triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy in England earlier in the year by playing two high-class knocks in the semifinals and finals. He remains crucial to Pakistan’s ODI plans but recently failed to find a place in the T20 squad for the World Series next month.

Hafeez rates Kohli as the best in the world

Hafeez is very active on Twitter and interacts with his fans every now and again. In a recent fan interaction on Twitter, the all-rounder was asked about the best batsman of the current generation. While there are more than a few names that one would debate on, Hafeez was firm in his reply. He replied saying that Indian batsman was the best among all, much to the delight of all Indian fans.

Kohli’s ascendancy unprecedented

Virat Kohli indeed has been in supreme form over the last couple of years. His contemporaries Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson give him tough competition but the Indian has been a notch above them because of his expertise in the limited over formats. The T20 format wasn’t his strongest forte but the 28-year old has scored tons of runs over the last 18 months in the shortest format of the game to take his average to the north of 50, which is unprecedented in the shortest form of the game.

Hafeez played the last of his 50 Tests in August 2016. He has averaged 39.22 in the 5-day format after scoring 3452 runs which include 9 centuries and 12 fifties. In ODIs, Hafeez has won 190 caps scoring 5876 runs at 33.01 and picking 133 wickets at an economy of 4.14. For his vast knowledge of the game, Hafeez is famously known as a ‘Professor’. He has also appeared in 78 T20I, making 1619 runs and snaring 46 wickets.
