Since the time Babar Azam made his international cricket, he was seen as a future prospect for the Pakistan side. The right-hand batsman has everything which makes a batsman great. So, it was obvious that the young man would be compared to the other sub-continental star and legend Virat Kohli.
Over the past few years, Azam has surely done enough to be compared with the Indian legend. Though, Azam is quite young, if he continues to play this way, who knows he might break the records which are now been set or held by Kohli. Senior Pakistan player Mohammad Hafeez finally spoke on this comparison between the two players.
Speaking on the debate and comparison between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli, the former Pakistan captain said that it won’t be correct in comparing the two batsmen. He feels the two can not be compared as there is no comparison between them as they have different sides to them.
‘It’s not right to compare these two’: Mohammad Hafeez
“I think it’s not right to compare these two [Babar Azam and Virat Kohli]. Kohli is a brilliant cricketer and he has performed all over the world but Babar is also playing exceptionally well. Both have two different sides and there is no comparison between them,” said Hafeez as quoted by Times Now.
Mohammad Hafeez was left out of the one-day side of Pakistan after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals last year. During the tournament, Hafeez’s individual form was pretty bad as he managed only one good knock. But earlier this year, looking at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2020, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to call back the experienced duo of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.
Speaking about his plans on retirement, Hafeez finally cleared the air. “I’m planning to retire respectfully after playing the T20 World Cup later this year,” the 39-year-old said. However, Hafeez made it clear that he intends to continue playing in T20 leagues. “I will continue playing T20 leagues around the world as long as I’m fit and performing with the bat”, Hafeez added.
Mohammad Hafeez has had a long career for Pakistan. He made his international debut in 2003, but his foot got settled in 2009. He has played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 91 T20Is. He has 12258 runs and 246 wickets in international cricket until now.
