Mohammad Nabi has been one of the most influential figures in Afghanistan cricket. Much before Rashid Khan, the all-rounder was the one who was letting people know what his country’s cricket team can do. Nabi was the first of Afghanistan cricketers to make a way into overseas teams and even into franchise cricket.

With all that experience on his back and his genuine love for developing cricket in his country, he was appointed as the board director for his country. However, his stint has ended with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) releasing him from his duties of the role. This decision was announced on Monday and it was said that it has been done keeping in mind the international assignments.

The role which he has vacated will now be held by Farid Mamundzay, who is also Afghanistan’s ambassador to New Delhi. Mamundzay will now be a part of the ACB as a member, replacing Nabi. The ACB released a statement in which they stated that the decision has been made so that he can play his role as the senior-most player.

ACB looking to strengthen its bilateral relations with India

”The decision to relieve senior player Mohammad Nabi from his duties as a Board member was taken considering Afghanistan’s upcoming important and busy international calendar where he will play a vital role as the senior-most all-rounder for the national team,” said ACB in a statement as reported by Cricfrenzy.

According to well-placed sources, it has been revealed that this decision will have a strategic impact on ACB’s plans for its future. The appointment of Mamundzay as the board member is supposed to help the bilateral relations with India and strengthen them at the same time. Afghanistan cricket team has adopted India as its home for playing their matches and has previously invited several teams to India to play bilateral series.

Speaking about Mamundzay, he is a professional and has credibility in his field. He has a Master’s degree in International Accounting and Finance. Apart from this, he has worked as a professor at Afghanistan’s American University.
