Mohammad Nabi takes four wickets to help Patriots beat USA in CPL warm-up

Even before the Caribbean Premier League gets underway, Afghanistan star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has started to make his impact felt in the league already. Nabi took 4 for 18 in a two-wicket win for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots against the USA in a warm-up on Wednesday. The USA had a good start to their innings as Abdullah Syed scored a 68 ball 44 to compile 78 runs along with Fahad Babar.

But when Nabi was given the ball in the 11th over, things changed and USA’s downfall began. He first sent back Babar for 16, then Jaskaran Malhotra had to walk back for 2, Syed was dismissed on 44. The fourth victim of Nabi’s assault was Mrunal Patel who walked back after a solitary run. Nisarg Patel’s unbeaten 17 was the best score for the USA after Syed, which got them to 128 for 6 in their 20 overs slot. Patriots chased down the target in 15 overs.

Mohammad Nabi made his ODI debut in 2009 and has played 83 matches so far in which he has claimed 85 wickets. He made his T20 debut in 2010, a format in which he has played 58 matches and taken 59 wickets. Nabi made his Indian Premier League debut in the tenth edition of the league in 2017 and took 2 wickets from 3 games. He was particularly impressive in the game against eventual winners Mumbai Indians. Playing only his second IPL match, Nabi was handed the ball in the Powerplay, and he repaid the trust by clean bowling Lendl Simmons off his fourth delivery. He bowled four overs on a trot and conceded only 13 runs. The USA will play another warm-up on Thursday against the Jamaica Tallawahs before the main games begin. This is the first time that USA is playing against CPL teams.
