Mohammad Shahid's wife makes torture allegations against him
Akhtar registered an official complaint to BCB against her husband and also spoke out about the case.
28-year-old Bangladeshi pacer Mohammad Shahid, who had been sidelined from cricket due to an injury he picked in November 2016 and hasn’t played any professional cricket since has gotten into trouble off the field. He married Farzana Akhtar in 2011, but his personal life has been subject to a lot of troubles, with his wife suspecting him of having an extramarital affair and has alleged him of torture.
Akhtar registered an official complaint to BCB against her husband and also spoke out about the case. “He has an extramarital relationship. If I talk about this, he tortures me in different ways,” she said after submitting her complaint to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
The allegations
In her written statement, Farzana stated that he “tortures” her and doesn’t show any affection towards their 11-month-old daughter, one of the couple’s two kids. “Shahid never hugged or took our 11-month-old daughter on his lap. He hasn’t spent a penny for the kid so far,” she wrote.
The letter further used the example of the misdemeanours by stating, “On June 23, just three days before the Eid, Shahid told his mother and brother to get me out of his house. He also threatened to push me off the roof if I disagree.”
Although the extent and the truth behind these allegations is yet to be determined, they are derogatory and have an extreme effect on the right-arm pacer’s image, who had already fallen out of favour with the selectors. These allegations won’t help his cause, as he makes a push for a comeback, having played his last international game in October last year.
Shahid, who played five Tests and one T20 International for Bangladesh, has just 6 international wickets to his credit with a mediocre average of 58 and 32 respectively. Having made his first-class debut almost 6 years ago, his career hasn’t panned out as he would’ve liked, in more ways than one.
