Misbah-ul-Haq, the former cricketer is the newly appointed coach and selector of Pakistan. It is not quite often that we see an individual hold the dual role on an International level although PCB thinks Misbah-ul-Haq is capable of handling the responsibilities in both the departments, but the Pakistan batting legend Mohammad Yousuf has different thinking from his cricket board.
Former Pakistan cricketer has criticized the board for their decision of appointing Misbah-ul-Haq for the dual role his appointment was not based on merit and questioned how he would be able to spot the first-class talent on the basis of “scorecards” alone.
‘On merit, Waqar Younis should have been the head coach and chief selector’
The outspoken cricketer feels that how a person traveling with the national team can concentrate on the grassroots talent of the country and scorecard of a player doesn’t define him, “The head coach will be with the national team then how would he be able to watch first-class players with his own eyes,The chief selector will have to rule on the basis of scorecards or through what the provincial coaches feed him. So if provincial coaches have to do all the work then what was the need of a chief selector” as quoted by Geo TV.
He kept on adding that if the selection was on merit, then Waqar Younis is more capable than Misbah-ul-Haq, but how can he settle for the bowling coach’s role when on merit he should have been the head coach and chief selector.
When he was asked about the return of International cricket to his nation after a long time-lapse, as Sri Lanka will play three-match ODIs and T20Is in Pakistan, Yousuf said that it would be good for Pakistan cricket even though the islanders are without their key players and also added that Sri Lanka with their full strength would have been no match with Pakistan.
Mohammad Yousuf has featured in 288 ODIs and 90 Tests and managed to get more than 15,000 runs in International cricket. After retiring from cricket he has always been in headlines for criticizing Pakistan cricket and his outspoken behavior.
