Mohammad Yousuf takes a dig at India's historic series win in Australia

India, currently the world number one Test side, achieved what no other Asian team could achieve – winning a Test series on the Australian soil. The Asian teams started touring Australia since 1948 when India visited the southern hemisphere to take on Sir Don Bradman and his men. Since then every Asian team returned empty-handed before Virat Kohli and his men broke the duck. But undermining the historic triumph, former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has said that even the current Pakistan side has the chance of beating Australia at their home turf now.

The win came 71 years’ after India’s first visit to Australia and ended the 11-series winless streak for them. India trumped the hosts in all the departments to take away the series 2-1 and retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy. The tourists could have won the series 3-1 but rain and bad light helped Australia escape with a draw in the final Test. The scoreline of the series might not be the true reflection of India’s domination in the series.

To start with the century tally, Indian batsmen scored five of them while the Aussies failed to notch up even one. It happened for the first time in 130 years that the Australian batsmen failed to score a ton in a home Test series of at least four matches.  India’s top six batsmen scored 1,547 runs at an average of almost 37 each while their Australian counterpart could only manage 1,129 at a modest average of less than 27. Even India’s pacers outperformed Australia’s celebrated pace-trio.

Since the monumental triumph, the cricketing world has been lavishing praise on India. However,  Yousuf seems to be not very impressed with it. “If the Pakistan team went to Australia now, even they have a chance of winning there,” said Yousuf.

Pakistan’s miseries in Tests

Well, Yousuf might have thought that India won the Tests against a weak Australian side, he seems to have a weak memory. Just a couple of months ago, the same Australian side had given Pakistan a run for their own money in UAE. Australia earned a famous draw in the first Test before losing the second.

In the following series, Pakistan lost at home against New Zealand. It was their first defeat to Kiwis at home in 49 years. Currently, the Sarfraz Ahmed-led side in whites is struggling to deliver in South Africa and have already conceded an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
