Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami found himself as a victim of social abuse once again on social media platform Twitter. The bowler took to his official handle and posted pictures of his daughter’s birthday celebrations. According to the outraging Twitteratis, his mistake was to share the pictures of his wife where she is not wearing a hijab.
The crowd on Twitter lashed out at the 27-year-old Indian international for not abiding by the rules of a Muslim. This is not the first time Mohammed Shami is facing such circumstances, but a similar incident took place last year on Christmas. Shami was slammed by people on Twitter for allowing his wife to pose in a western outfit in a picture that he shared.
Shami’s tweet on his daughter’s birthday was a cute post with pictures of the family with the birthday cake. His daughter Aairah stepped into the second year of her life on 18th July 2017. The tweet was captioned with “My princess Aairah’s 2nd birthday celebration”.
Irfan Pathan case:
Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also faced similar humiliation on Twitter when he posted a selfie with his wife Safa Baig. It was also considered to be a ‘non-Islamic’ photo as the Saudi Arabian model had applied nail polish on her nails.
However, Mohammed Shami’s fans came in support of the Bengal bowler and opposed the people criticising him. This incident on Facebook took place after Mohammed Shami was attacked by three youths when the cricketer was returning home to Katju Nagar, behind South City Mall in Kolkata. The three attackers were arrested by the Jadavpur Police.
“Police patrol and officer of anti-rowdy section have been asked to patrol the area and the road in front of his apartment to prevent any untoward incident,” an officer at the Jadavpur Police Station told PTI.
Here are tweets that came for and against the cricketer:
