Mohammed Shami distributes food packets and masks in Uttar Pradesh to help migrant workers

The last couple of months have been really tough for several Indians. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many have been displaced from their homes. The country has been going through an issue where migrants workers have been exposed to extreme hardships due to the lockdown during through the country.

During this situation of crisis, many famous celebrities have come together and tried to do their bit in helping others. One such personality is Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami. As several people are returning to their homes from different parts of the country, Shami has started an initiative where he has been distributing food packets and masks for many such people.

On Tuesday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded a video of Shami’s initiative on their official Twitter handle. The fast-bowler has been carrying out this initiative around his house in Sahaspur, Uttar Pradesh.

BCCI hails Mohammed Shami for his noble cause

“As #IndiaFightsCorona, @MdShami11 comes forward to help people trying to reach home by distributing food packets & masks on National Highway No. 24 in Uttar Pradesh. He has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur. We are in this together”, the caption of the post read.

After BCCI uploaded this tweet, the Indian bowler also posted a reply. He wrote that this is his duty as a citizen of the country. “Thank you ye to farz hai hamara’, his tweet said. Many fans on Twitter also praised his efforts to help poor workers during the situation of crisis.

The 29-year-old pacer plays his domestic cricket in West Bengal and represents Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. However, he is actually a resident of Uttar Pradesh who had moved to Bengal at a young age while looking for opportunities.

Mohammed Shami has been a regular member of the Indian team for the past two years in ODI as well as Test format. Recently, he made a comeback in the T20I squad as well. He is one of the frontline bowlers who could be selected for the Indian T20 World Cup squad, given the tournament happens. In the IPL, he is contracted with the Kings XI Punjab franchise.
