Mohammed Shami probably has the best bouncer in world cricket: Sunil Gavaskar
Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull also praised Shami.
Kings XI Punjab lost their first match of IPL 2020 against Delhi Capitals, but the contest got so thrilling that it slipped into the super over. Two people who made an unmatchable contribution to the Punjab squad were Mayank Agarwal and pacer Mohammed Shami.
While the former remained stunning with his bat, Shami provided the much-needed start to his team with a magical spell. Well, it was just one run that pushed the match into the super over where DC defeated them effortlessly.
Shami’s stellar performance invited praise from all sections of the world. Now, the good words are also coming from none other than legendry Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. He feels that Shami has the ‘best bouncer’ in world cricket. It is expected that the pacer will maintain his form throughout the season as Punjab would eye their maiden title.
“He (Shami) probably has the best bouncer in world cricket, it skids on to you,” said Gavaskar during commentary of the match between Capitals and Punjab in match number two at Dubai.
Shami’s magical spell in match against DC
Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull was also present with Gavaskar in the commentary box, and he also praised Shami. The duo in the commentary box talked about how Shami’s wrist produces just the correct seam at the time of release, allowing the ball to land at the perfect position.
Shami puzzled Prithvi Shaw and enticed him into playing a false shot, and he had to return back to the pavilion. In the same manner, the pacer trapped Shimron Hemeyer with a peach of a delivery, which took a leading-edge of the bat. Shami ended his innings with amazing figures of 3/15 that summed up to his personal best in IPL so far.
Earlier his best figures were 3/21, which he achieved against defending champions Mumbai Indians during IPL 2019. Now, starting the season with a loss and that too, which involved dramatic super over, KXIP might be disheartened. But they will try their level best to put up a dominating show against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next match of IPL 2020.
