Mohammed Shami's post sends Twitter into meltdown
Shami hasn't quite had a fruitful relationship with most people on social media as he has erred them a bit too often for no mistake of his own.

Mohammed Shami, the Indian pacer has had a contrasting year in international cricket. While he can be proud of his performances in the Test format, he has lost his spot in the ODI setup. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have become the lead bowlers for India in the limited-overs format. Similarly, Shami has had contrasting experiences on social media too.
In 2017, he was criticised for posting a picture of his wife in sleeveless clothes. Comments like ‘wear hijab’ and ‘follow Muslim rituals’ surfaced online and he did not have a good time. There were people who supported him while there were others who did not support the post. Shami lashes out against those who opposed the post and asked people to mind their own business.
Just hours into 2018 and the pacer finds himself in a similar situation. He took to Twitter to wish his followers on the occasion of New Year. The 26-year old posted a picture of Shivling (religious mass worshipped as Lord Shiva by the Hindus) decorated with flowers with the following caption:
“As the new year renews all the happiness and good tidings, hope the joyful spirit keeps glowing in your heart forever! Happy New Year 2018 to you and family.”

The Indian paceman received more positive comments this time around. People appreciated the ‘Shivling’ post. They were amused by the post and were all praises for the bowler. Religion should not come in the way of fans supporting or criticising players.
India face South Africa in the coming week and Shami is an integral part of the team’s preparations heading into the tour. The green and bouncy wickets should assist the right-arm pacer and he must be at his peak to rattle the Proteas. Shami has become the leader of the Indian pace attack over the years and a lot depends on him to put his team in a commendable position.
Here are some of the comments from religious fanatics who weren’t pleased with his tweet:
