Mohammed Shami says he should be hanged to death if found guilty of match-fixing
Many cricketers have come to the defense of Shami saying that he will not cheat the game of cricket.
There seems to be no end to the controversies surrounding star Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami. Among other allegations, his wife Hasin Jahan had also accused him of match-fixing. Following this, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) asked the BCCI to probe into the match-fixing allegations, but the speedster has himself commented on it saying that if he is found guilty of match-fixing, he should be hanged to death. BCCI’s Anti-Corruption chief Neeraj Kumar will probe Shami into the matter.
Denied his involvement in match-fixing
In conversation with India News, he outright denied his involvement in match-fixing and also indirectly said that he was not too happy with the BCCI’s decision to withdraw his name from the list of central contracts.
“The Indian cricket board canceled my annual contract in a rush. I have played the game in free and fair manner. Hang me if found guilty in the BCCI investigation,” the cricketer said.
Shami has been booked under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC. The charges of match-fixing were added later by his wife, whom he married four years ago. Hasin Jahan formerly worked as a cheerleader for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
A couple of hours ago she also alleged that Shami never fulfilled his responsibilities as a father and had no liking towards their daughter. Jahan had previously posted screenshots of Shami’s chats with various women, but those have not been proved as authentic yet. The Kolkata police are investigating the matter and have also sought help from the BCCI for the same.
