The Indian side is raring up to lock horns against England in the five-match Test series which kick starts from August 4. Ahead of this series, a lot of chatter on the inclusion of Siraj in the playing XI has got fueled up. Whilst this, the BCCI sources have signaled the selection of Mohammed Siraj in the side for the upcoming Tests.
Knowing that the pacing unit couldn’t reap any greater rewards in the inaugural final of the World Test Championship, the inclusion of Siraj for the upcoming Test has been expected by many experts. Considering the English conditions, Siraj can be impactful against the hosts owing to his abilities to move the ball. The BCCI sources have thus hinted that they might still go with the picks of Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin, but Siraj is certain to make his way in the team.
It is likely that Siraj might make it into the squad replacing Ishant Sharma for the upcoming Test match series. “Even if the team management intends to stick with R Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja in the eleven, Siraj will probably replace Ishant (Sharma). But he’s in, and that’s certain,” stated sources as reported by News 18.
Mohammed Siraj’s impressive start to his Test career
The Indian team had displayed their sheer flair when they toured Down Under for the Test series. After facing a disappointing defeat in the first match, the team bounced back to triumph against the Australians. However, Mohammed Siraj also rose to the occasion and exuded great character to put forward his skills.
With the pacing tandem of India lacking the services of Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, and Umesh owing to injuries, Siraj took the charge of being the spearhead of the fast bowling unit. He returned as the highest wicket-taker in the series as India registered a historic win by cinching the series 2-1. Siraj has so far played 5 Tests and has picked up 16 wickets at an average of 28.25 and economy of under 3.
With his precise line and length at a good pace, he could prove as an important cog in the wheel of team India heading into the Test match series against England.
