After scripting a memorable victory in the four-match Test and five-match T20I series by 4-1 and 3-2 against England, India is locking horns against the same opponent in the ongoing first One Day International of the three-match series at Maharashtra Association Stadium in Pune. Virat Kohli & his men need a clean sweep against the World Champions to occupy the first position in the ODI rankings.

Ahead of the game, two cricketers Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna got their debut ODI caps. It is a big day for both the players as this will be the latter’s first International outing for India while Krunal had last featured in the team in a T20I fixture in November 2019 against Bangladesh.

Krunal and Prasidh had made a case for themselves to be included in the ODI squad by producing scintillating performances for their respective teams in the just-concluded 2020-21 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Prasidh was impressive with the ball as in the 7 matches that he played for Karnataka, the pacer scalped 14 wickets and picked them at an average of 22.21.

In addition, he was the highest wicket-taker for his side and had played a vital role in Karnataka reaching the semi-final.

Krunal Pandya gets emotional

Krunal, on the other hand, scored 388 runs in 5 innings in the domestic tournament including two tons and two fifties for his team Baroda. The spin all-rounder received his maiden ODI cap from his brother Hardik Pandya and dedicated his debut to his father by pointing the cap towards the sky.

Hardik and Krunal had lost their father in January 2020. Thus it was an emotional moment for the Baroda-star as he was playing for the first time for India after the demise of his father. Apart from the inclusion of Pandya and Krishna, India included spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the squad in place of Yuzvendra Chahal while KL Rahul got the nod as the keeper ahead of Rishabh Pant.
