Montgomery Cricket Club probably had to make their toughest decision, as they went ahead to play the first match without James Corfield, whose body has been found dead by the police on last Saturday. Corfield went camping with his friends at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and was last seen leaving the pub on Monday midnight.

A minute’s silence was marked to pay a tribute to the teenager. Emotions were running very high before the game, as members of the cricket team hugged each other and also sported blue armbands decorated with blue heart along with James’ nickname ‘Jimmy’. James has been associated with the Montgomery Cricket Club since the age of nine. The club played against Alberbury and Wellington after James’ family insisted on going ahead with the game.

The team’s leading run scorer termed James as an outstanding player. Speaking before the game, club chairman John Barker said: “Saturday will be hard for the players but the family wanted the game to go on and James would have wanted it to go on. “There’s a huge hole to fill in the cricket team, at 19 he was already good and he was only going to get better. “We want people to know how special he was” he added as per the quotes on Mirror.co.uk.

Apart from James, his father, brother and younger sister too played for the club. A statement was released by the club lauding the player’s loyalty and skill.

Mr Barker said: “From a young boy, from primary school, we’ve seen him grow up. He was one of the family. “He was playing in our youth team when he was nine years old. A lot of people who are currently playing played with James when he was a youth. “James was good with the young boys and girls, he would spend time with them either playing cricket or football.”

The local villagers too showed their support by wearing the colour, the teenager was sporting when last seen.
