Shoaib Akhtar, the former player recently proposed an idea that the officials can organize a three-match ODI series between India and Pakistan in order to raise funds in the fight against Coronavirus. Soon, he had to face some criticism with the likes of Kapil Dev and Rajeev Shukla ruling out any chances of it happening. Now, Sunil Gavaskar has joined the bandwagon and said that it is almost impossible to organize a bilateral series between the two countries.

The ongoing political tension is one of the major reasons due to which the chances of a series between the arch-rivals taking place are quite bleak. Its been long that these two nations played any cricketing series against each other. Since 2012, they have only played against each other in the ICC tournaments.

Bilateral series is unlikely, says Sunil Gavaskar

Recently, Ramiz Raja, the former Pakistan cricketer asked Sunil Gavaskar about his opinion on the fundraising bilateral series between the two nations. In reply, the former World Cup winner said that the chances of snowfall in Lahore, one of the major cities in Pakistan, are high in comparison to India and Pakistan playing a bilateral series.

The 70-year-old also added the fact that India and Pakistan should keep playing in ICC tournaments like T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup but thinking about series is not possible at the moment.

“There are more chances of snowfall in Lahore than bilateral series between India and Pakistan. Both teams will keep on meeting in World Cups and ICC tournaments, but a series between them seem unlikely right,” Sunil Gavaskar said while speaking to Ramiz Raja on his YouTube channel.

Earlier, Kapil Dev had slammed Shoaib Akhtar for his suggestion stating that India doesn’t need any money at least not at the cost of risking players’ lives. It is known that governments have announced lockdown in the countries due to the adverse effects of the novel virus that has taken several lives across the globe.

So, far more than 1 Lakh people have lost their lives and the death toll is increasing with each passing day. It has also forced the authorities to postpone big sporting events like Olympics, Europa League and Indian Premier League (IPL).
