In the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), veteran and Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo surpassed the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Lasith Malinga to become the highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League. On the day of the league opener, he equaled Malinga’s record by picking his 170th wicket and went on to bag his 171st in the second match to achieve this feat.
Malinga was the kind of bowler that every batter feared facing. He finessed the art of bowling yorkers. On the other hand, Bravo has been a finisher for his side, apart from his mastery of the bowling variation in the death overs. The two have come a long way, and are the rulers of their respective forms.
On Thursday evening, when the LSG vs CSK match concluded, Malinga took to Twitter to congratulate Bravo on the achievement. He said: “Bravo is a CHAMPION Congratulations on becoming the highest wicket-taker in IPL history mate @DJBravo47. More to go young man! #IPL2022”

Dwayne Bravo has 171 wickets in 153 matches
Bravo dismissed Deepak Hooda in the 18th over of LSG’s chase and stood on top of the table with 171 IPL wickets in hand. He also celebrated the moment by performing a hook step of his latest song- Number One. Bravo has achieved this feat in 153 games at an average of 24.07 and a strike rate of 17.3.
He has been a part of the IPL since the league’s inception. Before being picked by CSK in 2011, he spent his three years with MI. Notably, CSK won their second consecutive title in that very year. He was brought back by CSK before the IPL 2022 in the mega auction.
Bravo has won the Purple Cap twice in the 15 editions of the IPL. He was the highest wicket-taker in 2013 as well as in 2015, but CSK lost the finals against MI in both these years.
