The South African team might be in a strong position against a rather inexperienced overseas team Bangladesh but they’ve possibly lost their lead pacer for the rest of the match. Morne Morkel while bowling on the 4th day sustained a side strain and had to walk off the field just two balls into his 6th over during Bangladesh’s second innings late in the evening.
It was the 11th over of the Bangladeshi innings, Morkel right after bowling the second delivery which Imrul Kayes creamed it through the covers region for a boundary looked very uncomfortable. He eventually decided to discontinue the over and make his way back to the dressing room.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Twitter that the pacer has sustained a side strain on the left side and he will be taken to the hospital tomorrow for scans to confirm what is the extent of the injury.
The tweet read, “Morne Morkel update:He has sustained a left side strain & will be taken for further scans tomorrow morning to determine the extent of injury”

Unwanted record
Earlier in the game, Morkel owned a rather unwanted record. In the very first over of the innings, he picked up a couple of wickets without conceding a single run and the Bangladesh scoreboard read 0/2. In his following, over he bowled another peach of a delivery, he got in to move late and Mushfiqur Rahim had no answers to it.
The ball went through the gate and shattered the timber, Bangladesh were three down with just 6 runs on the board and this was the biggest loss since it was the captain. But fate had something else in store, since it is Morkel the umpire checked with his TV partner to check if he’d overstepped and as it turns out he had by quite a margin and Mushfiqur survived.
That gave Morkel the record of bagging most dismissals off no balls. He has now dismissed batsmen 14 times and has been denied a wicket because of a no ball.
South Africa meanwhile will be hoping he is fine and available for the rest of the series.
